Before: aging wood deck in Redwood City, CA, ready for replacement

If your deck has soft boards, loose railings or a frame that has seen too many winters, a replacement is usually safer and cheaper in the long run than another round of repairs. We remove the old deck, check the ledger, footings and framing, and build a new TimberTech deck on a structure that meets today’s code. Most replacements take two to four weeks on site.

Deck replacement FAQ

If the frame is sound and only the boards are tired, resurfacing with new decking can work. If there is rot at the ledger, posts or joists, or the deck was built before current code, a full replacement is the safer choice. We check the structure during the first visit and tell you which one makes sense.

Most replacements take two to four weeks on site, after the permit is issued. Permit timing depends on the city and we handle that part for you.

In most Bay Area cities, yes, if the deck is attached to the house or more than 30 inches above grade. We prepare the drawings, submit the permit and manage the inspections.

We demolish it, haul everything away and leave the yard clean. If the old frame is in good shape and meets code, we can sometimes reuse it, which lowers the cost.

It depends on size, height, slope, material and railing. We give a written estimate after the visit, with a 3D design so you can see exactly what you are paying for.
