Deck building FAQ

Most decks take a few weeks on site once the permit is approved. Permit timelines vary by city, from a couple of weeks to a few months. We give you a schedule with the proposal and keep you updated along the way.

In most Bay Area cities, decks more than 30 inches above grade need a permit, and some cities require one for any attached deck. We confirm the rules for your property and handle the permit and plans.

We build with Trex and TimberTech composite and PVC decking. They do not need staining or sealing, do not splinter or rot, and come with long manufacturer warranties. You can compare the lines side by side at our San Carlos showroom.

Yes. Hillside decks are some of our most common projects. They need taller posts, deeper footings and usually an engineer, and we handle all of it.

Most of our decks land between $40,000 and $150,000 depending on size, height, railing and extras. See real project totals on our deck cost guide.
